La Universitat de Barcelona se suma al projecte europeu inHERE per facilitar l’accés a l’educació superior de les persones refugiades

El projecte busca millorar la resposta de les universitats europees a les necessitats específiques de les persones refugiades a través de la formació del personal i l’intercanvi de bones pràctiques.

La Universitat de Barcelona, a través de la Fundació Solidaritat UB, és una de les institucions europees sòcies del projecte “Higher Education Supporting Refugees in Europe (inHERE)”, que va celebrar la seva reunió de llançament els dies 26 i 27 de setembre a Roma i que té com a objectiu principal facilitar la integració i l’accés a les universitats europees de les persones refugiades.

Només en el darrer any, han arribat a Europa més d’un milió de persones refugiades, desplaçades i altres migrants. Moltes d’aquestes persones són estudiants, investigadors o personal universitari que, a l’hora d’intentar reprendre l’activitat que desenvolupaven al país d’origen, s’enfronten a obstacles i necessitats específiques.

Més enllà del suport financer, poden trobar-se amb manca d’informació, assessorament i orientació sensible a la seva realitat, així com amb dificultats per al reconeixement de crèdits i qualificacions sense documents o la falta de cursos intensius d’idiomes amb finalitats acadèmiques. Per tal de respondre millor a aquestes i altres necessitats, el projecte inHERE facilitarà la formació del personal universitari i l’intercanvi de bones pràctiques en institucions europees d’educació superior.

El projecte inHERE, de dos anys de durada, està cofinançat per la Unió Europea (a través de l’Acció Clau sobre les Associacions Estratègiques del programa Erasmus +) i coordinat per la Unió d’Universitats de la Mediterrània (UNIMED). A més de la Universitat de Barcelona i la UNIMED, els socis del projecte inclouen l’EUA-European Universities Association, La Sapienza Universitat de Roma i el Campus France. L’Alt Comissionat de les Nacions Unides per als Refugiats (ACNUR) n’és membre associat.

En concret, en el marc del projecte, la Universitat de Barcelona liderarà l’acció “Living Lab”, que pretén afavorir el coneixement, l’intercanvi, l’aprofundiment i l’avaluació d’iniciatives, activitats, projectes… adreçades a la promoció de l’accés a l’ensenyament superior d’estudiants refugiats.

Les iniciatives que formaran part del “Living Lab” seran aquelles seleccionades per l’eina d’identificació de bones pràctiques de l’EUA (el “Mapa de Benvinguda de Refugiats”), que ja ha recollit més de 200 iniciatives de 31 països; entre elles, el Programa de suport a la persones refugiades i provinents de zones en conflicte de la Universitat de Barcelona, que coordina la Fundació Solidaritat UB.

A partir de les bones pràctiques identificades i dels resultats del “Living Lab”, es realitzarà una guia adreçada al personal universitari (que coordinarà la Universitat de La Sapienza) i també s’elaboraran un conjunt de recomanacions (que liderarà Campus France).

The University of Barcelona joins the European project inHERE to facilitate the access of refugees to higher education

The project seeks to improve the response of European universities to the specific needs of refugees through the training of staff and the exchange of good practices.

The University of Barcelona, through the UB Solidarity Foundation, is one of the European member institutions of the “Higher Education Supporting Refugees in Europe (inHERE)” project, which celebrated its launching meeting on September 26 and 27 at Rome and whose main objective is to facilitate the access and integration of refugees to European universities.

Only in the last year, more than one million refugees, displaced people and other migrants have come to Europe. Many of these people are students, researchers or university staff who, when trying to resume the activity they developed in the country of origin, face specific obstacles and needs.

Beyond financial support, they may find themselves lacking information, advice and orientation sensitive to their reality. They may also encounter difficulties in recognizing credits and qualifications without documents, or they may need intensive language courses for academic purposes. In order to respond better to these and other needs, the inHERE project will facilitate the training of university staff and the exchange of good practices in European institutions of higher education.

inHERE is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and coordinated by the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED). In addition to the University of Barcelona and UNIMED, the partners of the project are the European Universities Association (EUA), La Sapienza University of Rome and Campus France. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is an associate member.

Specifically, within the framework of the project, the University of Barcelona will lead the action “Living Lab”, which aims to promote the knowledge, exchange, deepening and evaluation of initiatives, activities, projects… addressed to the promotion of access to higher education for refugee students.

The initiatives that will be part of the “Living Lab” will be those selected by the EUA good practices identification tool (the “Refugees Welcome Map”), which has already collected more than 200 initiatives from 31 countries; among them, the Support program of the University of Barcelona for refugees and people from conflict areas, which is coordinated by the UB Solidarity Foundation.

Based on the good practices identified and the results of the “Living Lab”, the inHERE project will create a guideline for university staff (which will be coordinated by the University of La Sapienza) and also develop a set of recommendations (which will be led by Campus France).
