El projecte RESCUE reuneix universitats del nord i el sud-est mediterrani per les persones refugiades

A través de la Fundació Solidaritat UB, la Universitat de Barcelona participa en aquest projecte europeu de suport als estudiants universitaris refugiats.

La Universitat de Barcelona és una de les sis institucions universitàries europees que participen, els dies 14 i 15 de febrer a Roma, a la reunió inicial del projecte RESCUE, a què també assisteixen vuit universitats de Turquia, l’Iraq, Líban i Jordània.

RESCUE és un projecte europeu de cooperació internacional basat en el suport educatiu a les persones refugiades en els països de la regió MENA (Orient Mitjà i Nord d’Àfrica).

El projecte, de tres anys de durada (2016-2019), està cofinançat pel programa Erasmus + per a l’enfortiment de capacitats en el camp de l’educació superior, i el coordina la Unió d’Universitats del Mediterrani (UNIMED), de què la Universitat de Barcelona forma part.

El principal objectiu de RESCUE és donar suport a universitats de l’Iraq, el Líban i Jordània en la creació i gestió d’unitats ad hoc de suport operacional als estudiants universitaris refugiats (R-SOS), la missió de les quals és estructurar serveis específics que assessorin aquest col·lectiu en la represa del seu itinerari de formació acadèmica.

En alguns casos, la represa consistirà en l’accés als programes universitaris estàndards en les mateixes condicions que la resta d’estudiants, mentre que, en altres casos, se’ls proposarà seguir cursos de formació específics que els proporcionin habilitats i competències per a l’ocupació.

A més de participar a la reunió inicial de RESCUE, la Universitat de Barcelona també estarà present al taller que la UNIMED organitza el 15 de febrer a Roma per debatre sobre la situació de les persones refugiades a les institucions d’educació superior, tant d’Europa com de la regió MENA, a partir de diferents experiències i veus expertes en aquest camp. Al taller hi assistiran representants de les universitats iraquianes, libaneses i jordanes.

RESCUE és un dels projectes que la Universitat de Barcelona impulsa en el marc del seu Programa de suport a persones refugiades i provinents de zones en conflicte, coordinat per la Fundació Solidaritat UB. Dins del mateix programa, i en conveni amb l’Ajuntament de Barcelona, s’organitza un curs de transició als estudis de grau, que actualment realitzen quinze estudiants sirians i afganesos, d’edats majoritàriament compreses entre els 18 i els 24 anys.

Through the UB Solidarity Foundation, the University of Barcelona participates in this European project to support refugee university students.

The University of Barcelona is one of the six European university institutions that participate, on February 14 and 15 in Rome, at the initial meeting of the RESCUE project, also attended by eight universities from Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan.

RESCUE is a European project of international cooperation based on educational support for refugees in the countries of the MENA region (Middle East and Northern Africa).

The RESCUE project, of three years duration (2016-2019), is co-funded by the program Erasmus+ for capacity building in higher education, and is coordinated by the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), in which the University of Barcelona takes part.

The main objective of RESCUE is to support universities in Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan in the creation and management of ad hoc support units for refugee university students (R-SOS), whose mission is to structure specific services that advise this group on the resumption of its academic training itinerary.

In some cases, the resumption will consist of access to standard university programs under the same conditions as other students, while in other cases, they will be proposed to follow specific training courses that provide them with skills and competencies for the occupation.

In addition to participating in the initial meeting of RESCUE, the University of Barcelona will also be present at the workshop that UNIMED organizes on February 15 in Rome to discuss the situation of refugees in higher education institutions, both in Europe and in the MENA region, from different experiences and expert voices in this field. The workshop will be attended by representatives of Iraqi, Lebanese and Jordanian universities.

RESCUE is one of the projects that the University of Barcelona promotes within the frame of its Support program for refugees and people from conflict areas, managed by the UB Solidarity Foundation. Within the same program, and in agreement with the City Council of Barcelona, the UB organizes a course on transition to bachelor’s degrees, which is currently performed by fifteen Syrian and Afghans students, mainly from 18 to 24 years old.
