New research explores the role of digital media in fostering inclusion, participation, and peacebuilding across Europe

Conducted by the INCLUDE ME+ consortium, the research shows how digital platforms can be spaces of visibility, safety and voice for marginalized communities.

The INCLUDE ME+ project, of which the UB Solidarity Foundation is a partner, announces the release of its ‘Mediation in Media‘ study, which examines how digital media in Europe is both shaping and being shaped by efforts to create safer and more inclusive online spaces.

This study brings together two research reports, carried out by project partners from Denmark, Finland, Germany, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine, with additional EU-wide insights.

• A desk research report, which provides a detailed overview of the digital media landscape in Europe, including current legislation, policy initiatives and current challenges for an inclusive digital environment.

• A Participatory Action Research (PAR) report, based on direct input from student representatives, digital media creators, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), experts and civil society organizations, which highlights real experiences, community challenges and innovative practices in the creation of inclusive media.

Together, these reports provide relevant insights into how digital platforms can be spaces of visibility, safety and voice for marginalized communities.

“We believe that media can be a powerful force for social transformation”, says the INCLUDE ME+ consortium. “This study is a call to action for media professionals, students, HEI educators and civil society organizations to rethink how we create and share content”.

The INCLUDE ME+ consortium, coordinated by Åbo Akademi University (Finland), includes the European Universities Continuing Education Network (eucen), the European E-Learning Institute of Denmark (EUEI), Momentum Educate + Innovate (Ireland), Outside Media & Knowledge UG (Germany), T.C. Tuzla Kaymakamligi (Turkey), the International European University of Ukraine and the UB Solidarity Foundation.

The results of the study will directly inform the upcoming INCLUDE ME+ educational programme, which will equip media professionals, students, HEI educators and civil society organizations with tools and strategies to create responsible, inclusive and participatory media across Europe.
